Those prices assume standard buckets and zero add-ons. A thumb, auxiliary hydraulics, or a cab upgrade adds 10–15% on top. For Sunward compact excavators:

- A 3.5-ton machine (~7,700 lbs) plus trailer: crosses 11,000 lbs. That requires a 3/4-ton truck. No workaround.
Check the payload sticker on the driver's door, not the sales brochure. We didn't, and our first 3.5-ton purchase forced an unplanned truck upgrade.

"Balloon pump" in a construction context isn't for party balloons—it's a pump used to inflate pipe plugs, inflatable bladders, and pneumatic lifting bags. These are common tools in pipeline testing, utility bypass work, and confined-space entry.
We keep a portable unit rated at 150 psi on our utility truck for pipe plug work. The valve connections are standard Schrader-style, same as tire valves. Match the pump's pressure rating and flow output to your pipe plug specifications. We bought a compact 12V unit first that took forever to inflate 12-inch plugs—returned it within a week. That was $180 of wasted budget and a trip back to the supply house.
If you actually need to inflate site tires or run air tools, what you want is a standard air compressor—a 5–8 CFM unit covers most maintenance tasks around compact equipment.
Is Sunward equipment a safe buy in 2025?
Conventional wisdom in our industry said buy Japanese or American for reliability. That advice dates from an era when Chinese machinery genuinely struggled. After six years and maybe 15–18 Sunward units in our fleet, the old reputation doesn't match what we see.
